Route Map

Site inspection

Partners put together an Anthology containing good practices on the use of orienteering for social inclusion and identify methods that can be applied for ORIENT activities through a cross-country research in Italy, Greece, Cyprus,
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria and Austria.

CAPACITY-BUILDING

Partners developed a curriculum and a training on orienteering for social inclusion for sports trainers and civil society organizations’ workers with tips on how to foster community building and organize orienteering mapping activities.

Gears & Ideas

A toolbox for the creation of orienteering routes for young people was produced: team-work tips, safety rules and techniques are included, and let’s not forget a compass, control point signals and a map so that young participants are set to explore!

Participatory mapping of orienteering routes

Sports trainers and civil society organizations’ workers worked alongside young people in co-creation workshops for the identification of geographical urban and/or natural local areas of social and cultural value to create new orienteering routes. This resulted in a transnational compendium of orienteering ‘routes for inclusion’ designed by and for young people.

Orienteering contest

Participants in each partner country took part in local outdoor orienteering contests. The fastest team to complete the national route was the winner!

Manifesto

At the end, a Manifesto was developed to show local networks and decision-makers the potential of orienteering to foster positive values and dynamics at community level and encourage its support at policy-making level.
